Project Details
Overview
A brand beacon at the Sukiyabashi crossroad in Ginza. The "White Box in a Blue Box" concept uses laminated blue glass and etched clear panels to create a 30-meter glowing architectural statement at the heart of one of Tokyo's most competitive retail corridors.
Collaborators
Gap Inc.
Scale
15,440 sq ft
Outcome
The store’s interior energy centers on the dramatic, deep-blue glowing escalators. This vertical spine guides customers through four floors of specialized retail, from the experimental "White Space" on the ground floor to the dedicated 1969 Denim Studio. The use of honed limestone, warm oak, and industrial steel creates a "Modern & Sexy" atmosphere that bridges American heritage with Japanese precision.

Part of Gap Inc.'s aggressive global flagship strategy in 2011, entering Ginza alongside openings in Milan and China. Craig Trettau directed global retail format design at VP level, translating the Gap brand into one of the world's most design-literate retail markets.
